Duh, I should have known. So the plan was to go to Freiburg, Germany today. Not knowing theirs also a Fribourg, Switzerland, I purchased a ticket from Bern to Friburg, about half an hour later I realized I was still in Switzerland. Doh! So I had to rail back to Bern then through Basel and now I’m in Freiburg Germany. Other than that things have been fairly uneventful for the past couple of days. Except for the extreme pain my legs are feeling right now due to the excess walking I do everyday, all is well. I sure wish I brought my bike along. I would be able to see more things and wear out my shoe’s/body a little less in the process.

My last morning in Interlachen was neet. I went up to the top of the series of gondela’s they have there. I think it got up to 3000 meters. It was super high and it looked out onto the 3 main mountains in the area, the Eiger, Monch and Jongfraugh. I could also see a lot of other mountains including Mont Blanc, France which is the tallest mountain in Europe. But I also did a 2 hour hike which was one of the most amaying hikes I’ve ever done. I had mountains on both side of me that were sheer cliffs. It was perfect for the many sky divers to jump off of and also the tallest waterfall in europe was only feet away. Walking through this grassy valley, I was able to tune into the lovely music the cows were playing for me. The farmers put bells around the cows necks and it really does make a lovely noise. Autumn is the time of year the cows come down the mountain. It sounds funny but its true. Their are these little villages going way up the mountains and the cows can’t be in the mountains in the winter so the farmers decorate them and put massive traditional bells around their necks. Anyways, I was able to see a bit of it and it was really neet.

Bern was neet, it is a city that appears to not have aged a bit since the middle ages. It was very picturesque. It was nice to see but somewhat boring after I had walked around trying to find something to do for a few hours.

Freiburg is somewhat similar to burn in that their isn’t much to do, although it does have tons of shopping and market stuff going on. But Frieburg’s buildings are a bit more lively, they are all painted a different color unlike the grey seen on most buildings in Bern. I even walked up this hill next to the city that overlooks the city. On the way up the climb I encountered a couple war memorials to the German soldiers in WWI and WWII. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to think about it. Sure they were people that had families who loved them, but they were also fighting against and killing my countrymen. So I almost felt like I was cheering for the other team or something like that. Its weird seeing the memorials in Washington DC and then the other side. It just makes you think about things in a different perspective.
So I am off to Munich, or Munchen as the locals call it, tomorrow. I think it might have been part of East Germany, but I’m not sure. I heard Bayern Munich (futbol team) is playing. I will do all I can to secure a seat for that game. I think I will head south east to Austria after that.

Jesse,
Awesome stuff dude. I was in Freiburg in October, and my family comes from an area about an hour’s drive north. It’s a cool university city for sure. Enjoy your trip!
